expected to be at the top of her father's little hive. She's not ambitious, really, but the
combination of knowing just how to impress him, keeping Proquess
safe from the machinations of the rest of the hive, and her own casual
power and clever trickery all would have conspired to keep her safely in the
"number two" spot, just below Shishayair himself. All she ever
wanted was to be his
right-paw dragon, earning his affection and praise: she actually does love her father
as well as respect him, and respects his wishes that his bond be
respected. Though she is confident and independent, her greatest desire
was always to please someone she saw as her role model, her indulgent
teacher, and her only real parental figure. All it would have taken to
make her happy was his affirmation of her worth.
Now that she is bonded, however, she has cut all ties with the hive, taking Rusaleon and her sponsor Ryou and obtaining her own apartment, her own job, and her own life. Only her sister knows where she has gone, and she cannot tell. Only Mu-Lin sees her, and only occasionally, to keep her young bond safe from Shishayair, and, perhaps more importantly in her own eyes, to keep Shishayair safe from Rusaleon once he is grown and strong enough to hurt him. Few of the hive miss her-- Uecoss and Alladross loathe her, Lohress isn't at all sure what to do with her, her nurse-maid Carskadei doesn't trust her in the slightest, somewhat rightly, and Ominous is only too glad to have the usurper gone. And though she does not miss them, she feels adrift, purposeless, and alone, despite the affection of bond and sponsor. She cannot go back, not after turning her back on her father without warning or permission, but that doesn't mean she is happy how she is. |
