Keshnarmeynee's Story

Chapter Ten: A Lonely Hydra

"Hey 'Yui."

"Hello, Rasil." The fiery creature didn't even look up from his books-- well, its books, but Rasil couldn't think of anybody as an "it", so he always called 'Yui a "he" in his own mind-- and Rasil already felt his stomach sinking.

Well, that probably had something to do with the nylon potted plant he'd nibbled on earlier, too, but still. It didn't bode well for getting Zkikiyui away from his studying. The gyujtoan caetran had barreled his way through school and was halfway through college-level pre-law courses, and it'd only been a few years. He was more devoted than ever to his plan of becoming a lawyer, and tended to submerge everything else into that plan.

Rasil made an attempt, anyway. "I was wondering if you wanted to go for a flight with me...."

"Rasil, I have a paper due that I really must finish my research for."

"That paper's not due until next week," one of Rasil's side-heads complained around the dangling chain in its mouth.

"Exactly. I have much work to do. Ask Dihaga?"

Unable to smother all the sighs that came from his many heads, though he did try, Rasil withdrew and made his way out into the living room, where the tiny terigon lay sprawled across the couch, watching the holo. "Dihaga," he began, without much hope.

"Ssssh, they're about to meet Jaeger's ex-girlfriend with the knife!" Dihaga whispered fiercely, eyes glued to the 3D holographic image.

Rasil wound up going to the flight deck alone that afternoon. Like usual.
