She is very friendly, open and inviting to others, and though she might be gentle, she is not a quiet person unless circumstances or companions specifically require it. Rather, she likes being among noise and chatter-- all her life, after all, has been full of bustle and business-- and has been known to add to the chatter often enough. Long periods of quiet all around her actually make her a little uncomfortable. She is an optimist at heart, though like any other she can have her down days, and considers herself a lucky person with a good life. Whenever she can she tries to spread happiness to those she comes in contact with, and can in fact be saddened when she fails to brighten the lives around her. |
History: | Despite a life of slavery, Dune is still as
spirited as ever. She was sold just after her last growth spurt to a
nomadic group of desert-humans, who were looking for a guard dog rather
than a slender and friendly "pet". Though disappointed in her
lack of ferocity, they put her to use as a pet, entertainer, and
sometimes-babysitter for their children, a task to which she was
remarkably well-suited. Somehow, they managed to overlook the great
intelligence in her eyes, day after day, and she didn't point out to the
adults when she'd started learning their language, half-certain that
their reaction would be to sell her or even kill her rather than admit
to themselves how intelligent she really was. Her current
"duties" were light, and the children treated her better than
their elders, and besides, where would she go?
However, no matter what she thought prior to her rescue, ever since she has said that it was the happiest day of her life (so far) to be rescued by her larger, full-Desert enkeyn kin. She has been free for six months now, and much prefers it. Her current task-- she does like to keep busy, after all-- is helping other rescued sa'enkeyn settle into the free life, take up a possible trade or two, and learn the common languages. She, herself, now speaks two languages fairly well, and is working on her third. |
Abilities: | Unlike some sa'enkeyn, Dune's wings-- when the feathers are not kept clipped-- are fully functional, allowing her to be a very skilled aerialist once she gets more practice in. She can speak verbally, in two (going on three) Kartyn languages, and she is very intelligent. Her most treasured "talent" in her own mind, however, is her patience. |
