Personality: | To put it politely, Sevel is a little slow. To be a little less polite about it, he's actually rather stupid. He is incredibly easily entertained, though in a slow and quiet fashion, and spends most of his time doing nothing. Learning takes endless time, repetition, and patience. He isn't lazy, and he can be pathetically eager to please if he actually likes whoever he's supposed to be pleasing, but he simply isn't used to doing things. He can be child-like in many things, including childish temper and rebelliousness, due to lack of experience in the world, but his understanding can be fully adult in other things, sometimes surprising people. |
History: | Most of Sevel's lack of intellect comes
from his upbringing. He was bred specifically for the look he has, as
part of a menagerie, and there wasn't anything else he was supposed to
do, not even tricks to amuse an audience. Intelligence was ignored
completely as a trait. If that weren't bad enough, he was given so
little stimulation in his cubhood years that he simply didn't develop
any more capacity for intelligence. It never really occurred to him that
his listlessness was boredom, he simply accepted that life was just like
that, and after a while, he simply ceased to notice boredom, because it
was so much a part of him.
Once "rescued" and taken to Kenist Miana, life changed quite a bit for Sevel. No longer was he over-fed, sedentary, and oohed and aahed over; now he was expected to do things, learn things, and one day become a functioning member of society. The very thought is overwhelming, and more than his simple brain can cope with, so he avoids lessons when he has them and has become remarkably adept at finding hiding places to sleep in. Sleeping, after all, is his favorite activity. Even after over a year at the Sharian ranch, he still hasn't garnered more than a limited mastery of language, and isn't showing much improvement. Recently, Sevel has been assigned a personal tutor, a desert sa'enkeyn named Dune, who acts as a nursemaid as much as a teacher. Half of the time he likes her, but half of the time he hates her because she makes him do things. It's a strange relationship, but it might be a productive one. |
Abilities: | Sevel has no abilities beyond the basic capability for verbal speech-- but so far, he's not very good with it. He can't even fly, as his wings are too small, but he is a surprisingly good climber. |
