Description: | It's obvious to anyone who looks that
Chrysoli has more than one Asandus heritage, and it's pretty obvious what
her twin breeds are. First, she is yellow and brown, and armor-plated like
a Makanan, though her plating is smooth and almost rubbery rather than
hard like a true Makanan's. However, she is missing a Makanan's typical
head-crest and tail fluke, having a fin running down her back like a
Cascatan, instead, and, above all, no wings. Her warm yellow fur is short
and velvety like a Cascatan's fur, rather than thicker and plusher like a
Makanan, and her eyes are green, not a normal Makanan color. She is small,
child of two smaller breeds, but she usually keeps her head down, not
looking at anyone, making her seem even smaller.
In human form, Chrysoli is fairly plain, small and slender with thin, brown hair, usually hanging limply around her shoulders, and an oddly colorless cast to her skin, being neither the warm yellow of a human-formed Makanan nor wholly the silvery-blue of a Cascatan. She rarely wears anything with any color, preferring brown above all else, though she can be persuaded into something blue or green now and then, but even then they are always conservative and concealing: another way to hide from the world. Her eyes are the only at all lively-seeming thing about her, still bright green, but they are usually downcast or fixed firmly in the distance, not looking too closely at anything in her direct vicinity. |
Personality: | Chiya and Ketvia have had their share of bold
and adventurous boys, so now they get an example from the other end of the
spectrum. Chrysoli is an extreme wallflower, timid and submissive to an
almost unhealthy level. She's actually happy left to her own devices, tucked away with a
favorite book or stuffed animal, but putting her around other people
immediately turns her fearful and uncertain, eliciting panic attacks and
even complete shut-downs if she becomes overwhelmed at all-- which isn't
hard to do. Simply put, people terrify her: she can't predict what they'll
do, though she usually assumes they won't want anything to do with her;
she fears rejection so she avoids opportunities to be rejected, despite wanting
to have friends and be loved; she never, ever wants to be an imposition or
a problem for anyone, so it's a chore to find out if she wants or even
needs anything.
All Chrysoli really wanted, on the day of her hatching, was a place where she can be sheltered and, by and large, looked after, so she only has to deal with as few people as possible. Still, the thought of having to choose those people terrified her-- what if they didn't like her? what if they were mean? what if they turned her down?-- so she chose the people she knew the most about already: Chiya and Ketvia. Callidei had spoken of her mothers to the eggs before, told them that they were signed up as sponsors, and the two Asandae spoke to the eggs some, themselves, so they were "familiar". She sought them out for that reason alone. Not because they were people she thought she could like, or people she felt at all akin to: people who were familiar and, thus, safer. The fact that they are both loving and accepting and seem to want to make her happy is just a bonus. It took her a long time to trust that.... |
Abilities: |
Being of a dual-breed heritage, Chrysoli has the magical
abilities of both a Makanan and a Cascatan. Like a Makanan, she can alter
her appearance to blend in with her surroundings, appearing, for all intents
and purposes, invisible. This is, really, her favorite ability, because it
allows her to hide so no one will look at her. Like a Cascatan, she can swim
very well and breathe underwater, though she doesn't often get the chance to
practice as, unlike a full Cascatan, she doesn't actively need
immersion in water to stay healthy, and her dislike of people means she
doesn't go out much to the public pools at Sanctuary.
As an Asandus, she has the usual Asandus abilities. She is a source of magic, in and of herself, and can use it for a wide variety of things. As much in an effort to please Chiya as because it was moderately enjoyable, she practiced enough to become quite talented at it. She can shape-shift between Asandus and human forms, and actually spends a lot of time in human form once she learns how. It's smaller and less noticeable, after all. She is psionic, in a very limited fashion: she can speak telepathically in addition to normal speaking, receive telepathic messages, and sometimes read thoughts, and she can teleport within a somewhat limited range, but that's the extent of her psionic abilities. |
