Description: Cath Goldstein is small, wiry, and darkly romantic in coloring. His face is pointed and olive-skinned, framed by long locks of thick, black hair: dredlocks, braids, bits of gold, beads, or slivers of bone, and a bandana round make him look enchantingly gypsy and excitingly ruffian. Almond eyes, a glittering black, rise above high cheekbones, a narrow nose, and a laughing mouth with one tooth missing and replaced with gold. His clothing is haphazard and comfortable, again fitting the role of sea-dog and scoundrel, and he rarely goes anywhere without his battered saber.
Personality: The only thing that really matters to Cath Goldstein is freedom. Whether on land on the ocean, Cath cannot stand being tied down for very long, stricken hard by the wanderlust of his supposedly gypsy heritage. The only real connection he allows himself, and that sometimes with great reluctance, is the tie to his mute, fraternal twin brother, Samuel. Even this he would have probably shed sometime in the past had he not been Sam's only way of communicating with the world, and Sam's easy-going nature that let Cath go wherever and do whatever he pleased for most of their partnership. He is an incurable flirt, but more quirky than any but the most ambitious or free-living women would like to involve themselves with for very long-- which is fine by him, because that way, they don't tie him down. Due to his quirkiness, however, there is more than just the odd rumor that some trauma in his childhood has snapped his sanity, but as Cath refuses to speak of the past and Samuel is unable to share whatever he might know of the gypsy duo's history, such remain only rumors.
History: The story is that Samuel and Cath are the orphan children of sea-faring gypsies, left ashore at the specus Infusco at the young age of seven for education and possible bonding when they came of age. Like all over inhabitants of the small dragon-world, the unlikely twins possessed psionic abilities, most notably in the form of a link between them that allowed the more vocal, if odd, brother to translate for the mute brother.

Whether they would have attached a pair of dragons is discussion for the theorists of what never was, however, for at age fourteen, both boys ran away from Infusco to join the crew of a gypsy ship that was at least half pirate. This was Cath's dream, to be free on the waves, but Sam followed mostly because he didn't want to be alone, not because he had any particular love for the sea or the gypsy way. He spent most of his time, instead, working on his own "projects" in the ships bowels or on shore in the attic room they rented whenever they came to land, while Cath enjoyed himself sailing, sword-fighting, and wenching his way up and down the coast. Neither brother quite understood the other, but habit and familial loyalty kept them together, alternating between land and sea.

Recently, however, the gypsy-pirate ship that they had come to claim as their own, with Cath as captain and Sam as mate, has run into bad luck: the worst luck any ship can run into, in fact. A storm smashed the small galley against the rocks just offshore of the Infusco dragonhome which the twins had abandoned nearly ten years before-- just in time for the current Infusco hatching, in fact. The specus took them in graciously, in the spirit of celebration for the rare and wonderful clutching of their matron dragoness, though so far none have recognized the gypsy duo as the foundlings who had fostered there so long ago.

Though Cath had misgivings about the whole idea of being attached to anything, much less a dragon specus, Sam was quickly enchanted with the idea and insisted they they stay just for this one hatching, just in case. The mute twin's enthusiasm-- and, perhaps more importantly, need for him to stick around for translation-- convinced Cath to stay. Just for this hatching, of course, then it's off to find a new ship and go back to the waves again.

And then Sodom came along, and spoiled all of his plans.
