Description: | Viukeme is not exactly what one would expect of a high-level priestess of a complex, ritualistic religion; if anything, she looks like she should be some earth-witch or peasant mother. She is very plain of face and average of build, and showing her high status in her home city, she is somewhat plump-- though not in a particularly curvaceous manner. Her round face is well-tanned, due to living life on a desert planet, with rosy cheeks and a generous mouth that smiles easily. Straight, light brown hair is cut short but for two thick strands kept long and hanging in front of her ears; these she usually twines with ribbons or, if she really wants to look fancy, with silver and semi-precious stones. Her common clothing is mostly in whites, silvers, and golds, as befitting a priestess, but for travel and spare time, she tends towards earth tones: browns, greens, and gray-blues. |
Personality: | Viukeme, though not exactly pretty, seems to glow from within, as if her love and faith were a tangible thing. She is a very gentle soul, but also very sheltered, not realizing how dangerous the world can be, and she has never seen someone die, or even be ill. She is somewhat shy, having never been given many opportunities to make friends but for those among her own rank, but she still tries to be friendly, and she is nearly always smiling. Never has she been permitted to see anything that might shake her faith in her "gods", but her mind is strong enough and quick enough that, should she be presented with contradictory information, she would think about it rather than reject it out of hand. |
History: | From the year she began her puberty,
Viukeme has been an elite member of the priesthood, one of the
privileged Second Order: dragon-bonding hopefuls. Only those with the
purest souls, strongest faith, and most willing minds are accepted into
this Order, and as she has known nothing else, she has always been
expected to eventually become a Priestess of the First Order: meaning,
she was expected to be bound to a dragon once given the opportunity.
Thus, she is one of the few people in her community who is allowed to
have direct contact with the four dragon "gods". Most of her
time is spent in leisure, with the only interruptions being when she is
called up to lead a ritual, care for one of her deities in some fashion,
or is brought to lessons in which she and the other Second Order priests
really learn very little.
Things were to change, and soon, for Viukeme, though. The Godhead Pasalime, to mourn the death of the last High Priest and celebrate the ascension of a new High Priestess-- or, the death of his last bond and his choice of a new one-- has at last decreed that there should be new priests of the First Order, and has ordered there to be a mating flight within the next year or two. Viukeme is one of those who was to be prepared to stand as potential candidates at the ensuing clutch, along with a select few others deemed as those best-suited to play host to a god. Circumstances changed, however. Viukeme was brought before the dragoness who was intended to be the mother of her future bond with three others, and she was given a new and different mission. The gods needed her help, she learned, to seek out others of their pantheon and bring them back to the fold. She would be sent with her companions to become First Order priests of a different class, bonded to deities unlike any Hetue had ever seen before, who would enrich the life of the people. Even though the journey would be long and difficult, how could she refuse? She and her companions set out immediately, and with surprisingly little ceremony, into the deserts of Atu, in the hopes that they would reach this holy "city in the stars" safe and sound to present their case. Though two of the small group's number are strangers to her, Viukeme is love-bonded to the third. As close as two people can be without the actual rites of marriage to bind them, Viukeme is only too glad to have young Urquhart accompanying her. She is the only woman of the four, and is quite content to let Urquhart protect her. |
