Description: | Keren is tall and strong of build for a woman. Her dusty-blonde hair is cropped short and boyish, her aqua-blue eyes narrow in a strong, masculine face. She dresses more appropriately for a man than for a woman, even when not in uniform, and has little bosom to speak of. Even her voice is low in pitch and rough in timbre. To someone who doesn't know her well, or sometimes even to those who do, she is easily mistaken for a man. |
Personality: | As appearance and Creed belies, Keren is strong and motivated. She knows what her duty is and will not hesitate to complete it, though she does have a strong sense of justice which often leads her to either spare those worthy of it or persue others whose crimes were not specifically mentioned in her assignment. She has a particular hatred for dealers in the drug market-- a vendetta which has recently gotten her into trouble. |
History: | Keren's parents were Battleborn, as
herself, and she grew up in the way of the soldier. She also has a
little sister, Kalaia, who was sent to the palace to learn as a Mystic,
or mage. When Keren passed into full Soldier status her first task was
to perfect her mech. She had a strong gift for mechanics and soon had
one of the most effective, clean-running mecha in the police force. When
Keren was 69, her mother got caught up by the drug trafficking and died
from an overdose and her father died a year later battling the ones who
he believed killed his wife. Keren took up their banner against the drug
market and through her zeal won herself a place in the special forces of
the police. Her specialties in battle are the mecha and hand-to-hand
combat and though she is minimally proficient with projectile and laser
weapons, as well, she has terrible aim.
All that she has worked for, however, Keren's vendetta has also lost her. Outside of official sanctions, she chased down and killed one of the most powerful drug lords in Tanazira. At first, she was praised, but the approval of her commanders quickly soured as the partner-in-crime of the man she killed began to target her and whatever team she was placed on, seeking revenge. The first sign of trouble that actually got Keren's attention was when Kalaia herself was attacked on an outing from the palace she lived in. She survived relatively unscathed but quite frightened, and Keren finally got the message. She took her sister and fled the planet through one of the many hidden gates in Tanazira. They ended up at one of the gate nexus worlds, specifically in Star City, and Keren managed to change her own savings into common credit and buy an apartment, Keren working small jobs and Kalaia exploring and somehow keeping out of trouble. They had lived there for a full year, adrift and feeling without purpose in the strange new place, when the flights and clutches began to open up for new breeds of dragons. Kalaia was the one to get the idea into her head that they should stand at one or two of them as candidates. To make themselves a place in this new world, of course, though Kalaia's general fascination with dragons-- not only were they animals, one of her favorite things in the world, but they were also people, in a sense, speaking and thinking sensibly-- was certainly a factor in her suggestion. Keren was skeptical, but at that point ready to try anything to get into a permanent job, and seeing as her preferred position would be in the police, a good warrior-dragon might help her get there. She got more than she'd bargained for, however, in Nekeress and Igess, two "dragons" of the most vicious breed so far known to exist: xenodragons. They did, indeed, help her procure a job with the force, in no small part because she shared Igess with the Minister of Security. Two years, and another xenodragon hatching, later, the apartment somehow got more crowded. Now Keren lives with her sister, the Minister Gavin Vance, Kalaia's ojee pet and friend Charity, a troupe of eight xenodragons-- Nekeress, Igess, and the Minister's six-- and the half-Chaos mutt Netahiln. Sometimes, somehow, there is peace and quiet in the dragoner apartment. But not often. |
