Personality: | Venom, born Ross Zhalott but rarely if ever
giving out his real name, is a bitter and jaded character, and he shows
it out by tending to be angry and scathing as often as apathetic and
cynical. He is not evil, not exactly, but he is definitely not good,
either. There is something about him that, with effort, could turn him
into a respected leader, but as he never tries, he is instead very much
a loner. Though he is, in some fashion, searching for some meaning in
life, he is really is more like drifting, going where work and whim take
him.
Through his actions, Venom comes across as either passively suicidal-- not actively, as he merely tends to get himself into very dangerous situations and not care much about staying alive, though he has in the past tried it actively and unsuccessfully-- or the ultimate thrill-seeker. He will do anything and everything, no matter how dangerous or deadly, from drinking toxic liquor because it tastes interesting to running cars off bridges to playing chicken with rampaging xenoqueens. After all, he never manages to actually die from his thrills. He is also obsessed with blood, in a very involuntary and pathological fashion, as he really doesn't much like such obsession and does his best to resist it. He chalks it up to some strange psychosis, the origins of which he does not recall, and most of the time he can ignore it. However, if a particular death happens to spill a lot of blood, he simply can't resist getting his hands covered with it, painting on the corpse or the walls with it, or even tasting it; hence, he tries for the cleanest kills possible. Even his own blood can cause a reaction, so his adventures are usually of the non-bloody kind, because he doesn't always heal immediately, without spilling at least a little. |
History: | A child of poverty on Star City space
station, Venom was raised by his mother, and neither she nor he know who
his father was. After all, she had a rather wide collection of men at
the time of his conception. He has no siblings, not even half-siblings,
and for the bulk of his life he looked after himself. He wasn't a
particularly happy child, not having much of a childhood before handling
mere survival was forced on him, but he says he would much rather have
learned early on than not have known later, when it was more important.
He's kept his home on Star City, and even keeps a small space ship of
his own, though he travels often.
Venom discovered his ability to heal rapidly and completely early on, as well: when he was eight, a gang whose street he had inadvertently trespassed upon converged on him and beat him nearly insensible. By the time the last laughing youth had sauntered off, however, he felt as good as new. Ever since, he has been testing the limits of his regeneration, with ever more extreme and dangerous tests. For various reasons, there always seems to be people out to kill him, no matter what world or space dock he stops at: either the authorities, because he's recently killed someone; other bounty hunters, because he's competition; or hit-men, for whatever reason at all. Even when he goes into less advanced areas on a job or on a whim, people tend to hunt him, thinking him evil, undead, demonic, or all three and more. For him, the saying "just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean there aren't people out to get you" is very pertinent-- aside from the fact that he isn't all that obviously paranoid. Watchful, yes, but not exactly paranoid, because after all, even when he's completely flat-footed and hit dead-on, he still hasn't actually died. |
Abilities: | Like most dragons, Venom possesses teleportation and simple telepathy, though he also can speak verbally, given he is an anthropomorph rather than a true dragon. Obviously, since he has wings of the proper size and strength, he can fly. His only non-typical power is his rapid and powerful regeneration-- both for himself and others. In others, he can heal by taking on their wounds and regenerating, himself. The regeneration is so powerful that he simply cannot seem to die, though he has certainly tried. He is a very good shot with a gun, though he isn't much of an up close and personal fighter-- though that doesn't seem to matter much, since any wound he receives heals over quickly-- and he can pilot a small craft quite well, whether in space or on a road, though he has a tendency to pilot like a speed demon. |
