Personality: | A dark and stoic individual, Dunkel Krahe
avoids relationships and, indeed, often avoids contact with others in
general. He drifts through (or sometimes just over) towns and cities
like a dark ghost. When people do try to get to know him, they find a
dour, embittered character who has grown so used to seeing only the dark
things in life that he no longer expects anything bright and good, even
though he, himself, secretly strives for goodness and light whenever he
can. He has a well-buried but still active sense of morality and a
streak of compassion that would surprise anyone who saw him when there
wasn't a life to be saved or a choice to be made.
Truly, living hurts for Dunkel Krahe, because everywhere there is life, he sees death. Yet, though he might wish for oblivion, he can't seem to let go of life, whether out of a vaguely hopeful desire to finally find something good, the search for a purpose to the death everywhere around him, deeply buried fear of the thing he sees in everyone else yet cannot see for himself, or even apathy-- though he is not a particularly apathetic individual. If anything, he has deep convictions and strong determination, he just currently has no direction. |
History: | There is little comparison between Helle
Krahe and Dunkel Krahe, or the dragon as he used to be and the dragon he
is now. Helle Krahe was a bright, intelligent dragon, white of feather
and opalescent of scale, who loved books and learning, usually had a
smile on his face, and had a number of friends. Dunkel Krahe is a dark,
brooding dragon, black of feather and darkly iridescent of scale, who
has not read a book in years, rarely smiles, and can call no one
friend.
The change happened in adolescence, a time when Krahe's breed of dragon first begins to learn magic. Tapping his magic started turning the world into a dismal place for him, and slowly he became a dismal character in it: bitter and gloomy, pessimistic and dark-minded. The first signs were a withdrawal from social circles, so much so that when he began to turn black on the outside as well as on the inside, many people were shocked and thought the change had happened overnight. By the time he reached adulthood, there was no sign of the cheerful, inquisitive Helle, leaving behind the solemn, silent Dunkel who found the books he used to love as traps for the mind-- and, as he was truly being struck by the thoughts and fates of the writer whenever he attempted to read them, they quite literally could be-- and desired no friends, not even the ones he'd made in childhood. Not many even wanted to make the effort to remain friends, anyway. Before a year passed after being deemed an adult, Krahe had left his home territory. Within another year, he had left the planet. He has not been home since. Now, he wanders the various realms, exploring and hiring himself out to make maps or, when mapping falls through, telling fortunes, when he can bear to. He cannot explain just why he constantly travels, but he knows that it hurts too much to stay in one place and constantly see the deaths and disasters in the futures of anyone he lives with, and he has the vague sense that he must seek a purpose-- whatever that purpose might be. |
Abilities: | Dunkel Krahe's main ability, central to his
character, is fortune-telling. He does not precisely see the future, so
he does not call the ability prediction, but he has the ability to spot
and interpret omens, manufacture predictive omens through mediums like
tarot cards or tossed stones, and, most disturbing to him, he can
envision what will become of a person if he is in physical contact with
them, sometimes without his own control or will. Usually he sees the
dark side of fate, ill omens and visions of death, making him a
generally unpopular fortune-teller and, really, person in general. He
has never seen omens or fate for himself, however, which is a source of
unease for him.
Otherwise, Krahe can speak both telepathically and verbally, has a limited amount of empathy, which tends to flare up unpredictably, and can teleport. His breath weapon, which used to be a freezing rain of ice like that of his fellows, turned as corrosive as his thoughts and became acid. |
