Personality: Selk is suspicious, wary, cold, quiet, unfriendly, prone to lashing out if he feels threatened, and altogether an unpleasant individual-- though, admittedly, with cause. In his fairly short life thus far, he has experienced precious little besides pain and abuse at the hands of his former owners, and now suspicion and impatience from his new "captors". It takes great patience to deal with him, and most simply don't have that patience. He is, perhaps, more than a little mad, and he certainly isn't very well socialized, despite every effort made by the rehabilitation program at Kenist Miana. The worst of it are his paranoias: he is both claustrophobic and mildly agoraphobic, making it difficult to be comfortable anywhere; pathologically skittish of humans and, by extension and to a slightly lesser extent, other bipeds; and neurotically protective of his antlers. He will not hesitate to bite or claw anyone who so much as brushes against his antlers, no matter how accidentally they do so. Now, he makes no effort to get over his "issues", as his rehabilitation counselors keep urging, in large part because he simply doesn't trust them.
History: Selk has had a rough life. His life until rescue and liberation was nothing but pain, torment, and neglect at the hands of his human merchant owners. Bred and engineered to resemble a northern beast prized for its antlers, he was the merchant's new, more convenient source of said antlers: every morning, at the same time every morning, his antlers were cut off for use in decorative and, more rarely, functional items for sale. Then he was left alone with his singular meal for the day to regenerate for a repeat of the torturous process the next morning. He wasn't even given a name, and never thought to chose one for himself until his relocation. By the time he was finally rescued, he was both half starved and half mad.

Even after given his freedom and enrolled in the rehabilitation program, Selk didn't open up. He learned the enkeyn and human languages, grudgingly and only because he knew he stood a better chance of protecting himself if he understood what was being said around him, but has yet to learn to trust any of his teachers or counselors. Everyone learned quickly not to touch his antlers, lest they want to come away with several sets of sharp claw-scores, or to mention them, for even that immediately wound him up with tension. By now, he is regarded with wary suspicion, as one might regard a fireball spell that might explode at any minute, and the only creatures who don't avoid him are the enkeyn and a very few other sa'enkeyn, for he isn't quite as volatile and on edge around them, though even they he doesn't quite trust.

For some reason-- perhaps the very things that cause others to veer away-- Selk has come to like the enkeyn Emeromer. She rarely even acknowledges his presence and doesn't seem to care what he does, and so he gravitates to her disengaged lack of interest more than the concerned and gentle approaches of other enkeyn. He wouldn't categorize his feelings as "like", really, but he does spend much of his time in her company when she stops by the complex, while he never spends time with anyone else, and with her last journey away, he's discovered he misses her presence.

Abilities: The only real "ability" Selk has is antler regeneration: he can regrow his antlers within a period of twenty-four hours, but this ability isn't one he ever intends to use again, if he can help it. Not only is it an extremely tiring and painful process, but it reminds him of his captivity, and he hates being reminded of that time. No matter how heavy his rack becomes, or how often he tangles in things, he'll do his best to keep it intact.
