Description: | Jay'tiel looks like she was built out of twigs: she is army, leggy, breakably thin, colored in a variety of browns, and twitchy with excess energy. Her skin is a odd gray-brown, not dark but not light, either, and her hair is a more dried-chocolate color, cut short and so wiry that it very nearly stands on end. Her face is heart-shaped but thin, like the rest of her, and it makes her dark blue-violet eyes look unnaturally large. Her clothing, though usually fine and expensive, is habitually in a state of disarray, either dirty, torn, missing pieces, or just not quite in place properly. Currently she only has one outfit of her old finery, forced to make do with clothes from the ship she and her companions escaped Kinau on, and now looks a bit ragged in addition to disheveled. |
Personality: | Fiesty and excitable, Jay'tiel made a very poor noble. She can be rude, uncouth, spoiled, temperamental, hyperactive, and unfortunately drawn towards various "improper" things for a Kinauan noble. To balance that out, though, she's also friendly, optimistic, fanatically loyal, and enthusiastic when she's interested in something. She can, in fact, be a little obsessive when it comes to new things she likes, and when it comes to new
people she likes, she tends towards hero-worship. She's a quick thinker, clever when she actually
does think, but she's much more likely to rely on emotion than careful planning. Her parents never particularly understood her or even liked her much-- unsurprising, given she's always been a little hellion and a thorn in their sides-- though they still paid for everything she ever needed or wanted that she could justify to them. She's never really had friends, either: very few of the other noble children were interested in playing with the resident tomboy, and those that were, were generally the wrong class level or controlled so rigidly by their parents that playing was out of the question. So, she's always been a bit lonely, and though she acts out as if she wants to push people away, a little bit of approval goes a long way. On the whole, Jay'tiel is a good kid who could, without much effort, go quite bad. Though at the moment she's a bit innocent, a bit gullible, and a bit naive, being thrown out on her own in her hero's absence is giving her a big leap into maturity. |
History: | The daughter of a minor noble who clawed his way up the social ladder with money rather than birth, Jay'tiel has been
pampered, spoiled, and indulged, but she has also been sheltered, shouted at, and suppressed. As her parents' only child, they tried her whole life to mold her into someone who could take their place in court, but she refused to be molded. Whenever she could-- which was admittedly not all that often-- she ran wild in the palace complex or their own home, avoiding lessons and duties alike. Her parents just hoped that she would settle down once in her apprenticeship, at age eighteen. Jay'tiel just hoped she could run away before then. Jay'tiel's acquaintance and subsequent fascination with Winged Construct One-- Riddik, as he introduced himself to her and as she was quite happy to call him-- began on accident. She knew about him, of course, because most people knew about him-- he was unique, the pride and bane of the construction labs, and highly dangerous. The warnings went that if you saw him when he was "working", you probably didn't have much longer to live. She met him while he was "working", but because she didn't shout out or give him away, he just smirked at her and let her live. Since then, Jay'tiel has been a little obsessed, and took every chance she had to meet him, even mimic him as much as she could without bringing down the wrath of her mother. Her love of Riddik, in fact, was one of the things that led to her abduction and current stranding in the middle of nowhere with a ship she doesn't really know how to fly. The visiting princess, Hol'anou wen Maganau, was also fascinated with the Winged Construct, and they were comparing notes about him when Riddik used Hol'anou to escape. Now, he has vanished, as well, leaving her alone with an equine construct who doesn't like her and no real idea of how to get home. |
Abilities: | Jay'tiel has no special abilities to speak of-- no magic, no psionics, no particular skills, nothing particularly useful. Just about all of her expensive education is useless away from her planet: for example, though she knows several languages, all except the common Nexiian trade-tongue are native only to Kinau. Her memory is good, though, and she's a quick learner, with better observation skills than many of her people. |
