Description: | Though he is hardly tall for his breed,
Aedelian gives the impression of height, for he is leggy and his wings
and paws seem just slightly too big for him, as if he is perpetually
adolescent and waiting for the last growth spurt that will make him grow
into them. His short, soft fur is a dark, bronzed yellow, like antique
gold, but it is often dusty from flying around in the mountains or
rummaging around in old ruins, dimming its natural shine but giving him
a sort of rustic yet absent-minded look. The slightly furry sails of his
wings are a pale silver gray, the fleshy fin between his ears and
rudder-like on his tail being a much darker shade, and the plating
covering his paws and face is a warm gray-brown color, generally fairly
dull but for special occasions he can burnish it up to a gentle shine.
Peering from that grayed face mask are a pair of wide, smiling, vividly
teal eyes, and half-blocking it are a pair a slightly over-sized ears
which have an alarming tendency to flop over like a lop-eared rabbit's
if he doesn't make an effort at holding them up, which isn't very often.
As an Avengaean dragon, Aedelian is capable of shifting into a human form-- slight, with knobby knees and elbows, and a bit of a belly, colored much like his dragon form-- but he is particularly gifted in the area of changing his form, and is also capable of changing into a variety of half-dragon forms. For the most part, he ends up looking like a winged, anthromorphic dragon with a thin layer of fur, but he has also been known, depending on his luck that day, to end up a furry human, a wingless dragon, or even a slightly smaller dragon like himself only without forelimbs. |
Personality: | Aedelian is everything an Air dragon should be: cheerful, playful, in love with flight, and somewhat self-absorbed, though not in a way that can be seen as insulting or arrogant, merely quirky. He loves mysteries of any kind, whether his own or others, so makes an attempt at cultivating a mysterious aura when around new people-- however, his innate, excitable curiosity usually nullifies such attempts as soon as he catches wind of a mystery not his own. He can be something of a flirt, or he tries to be while most of his own home's residents just roll their eyes at him. Perhaps his worst characteristic is his general lack for personal privacy: he tends to poke around in other people's heads without permission, until caught anyway. His good nature and sincere wish not to bring harm, just to get to know people better and to add to his personal store of knowledge, has been his saving grace at times. |
History: | Aedelian has always been a traveler, ever
since he was old enough to leave his mother's side. Even if it was only
exploring the nursery, their home, or the city they lived in, he had to
do it. Once he reached adulthood, he found a job long enough to purchase
a pentagramed object that would activate the Avengaean portal network,
and he was gone for nearly fifty years, wandering worlds and learning
all he could, before he came back just in time to fall in love. He
stayed put for almost twenty-five years, living in his home village with
his lovely young Air dragoness, raising their one daughter, Admeredith.
Then he was off again, coming home once or twice a year to visit his
family before leaving again for some new world.
Once their daughter had reached her own maturity, Aedelian started taking his mate with him on his trips off-world. She enjoyed herself, even if just because he took such joy in showing her the best and most beautiful of the places he had traveled-- or she enjoyed herself until she caught a foreign virus and died off-world when neither of them had the magical knowledge to cure her. Since then, Aedelian has remained mostly Aven-side, with only a few trips to a few of his favorite worlds now and then, comforting himself with the familiar and familial. However, his grieving is over now, and with the characteristic optimism of his species, he believes that even though the love of his life is gone, there is no reason he can't have other, smaller loves. In the past couple years, he has taken to re-visiting other worlds with dragons on them, learning about them and taking a mostly scholarly but partly personal interest in the frequent events called "flights", where male dragons compete in flight to catch a female, rather reminiscent of autumn festivals on Avengaea, but with only one female and the act itself taking place on the wing. Fascinated by the concept, at least, he has investigated worlds in which dragons might be of a size where he could participate, as he is fairly small, compared to many off-world dragons. Once he saw his granddaughter off safely to Sanctuary for the next bonding ceremony, he was ready to try his luck at his first: Star City Dragonry. As his luck would have it, however, the first two dragonesses he signed up for were having none of him. It took actually courting a lady to win her heart, and honestly, he thinks he prefers it that way. He and Vyly currently have a clutch of fourteen in the second hatching bay at Star City, waiting like the anxious parents they are for the hatching, in the hopes that all of their many offspring will find good bonds and good homes. |
