Description: | Jacquelyne, or more commonly just Jackie, isn't really much of a looker, but she honestly doesn't care. She is just a little too well-rounded in some places, and not round enough in others, to be attractive in the popular circles of the station, with a strong, angular face rather than a pretty one, and braided hair going every which way without more than a token effort at controlling it. But her eyes are bright and her chin stubborn, her hands strong and her full mouth easy with a smile, and she has a character about her when she chooses to exert it that makes beauty superfluous. Her clothes are usually so outrageously strange and colorful that no one takes them or her seriously-- which, in her own mind, is their own fault, not hers. |
Personality: | She is tough, proud, and as stubborn as that chin implies, quite willing to get into a debate and then turn it into an argument-- what she believes is right, gosh darnit, and she's going to prove it to you with hard, verifiable data. At the same time, though, she is bookish and introverted, generally avoiding contact with large groups of people unless it's for classes or the rare, friends-only party. Jackie does have friends, after all, she just doesn't have hoards or them, and she prefers it that way. Despite being stubborn in her opinions, she is incredibly open-minded about people and beliefs until they prove to her that they aren't worth her time or respect, and so her friends and acquaintances run the gambit of quirky to downright weird, and her outlook on life is so patch-worked even she couldn't tell where she got it all. That openness is a relic of spending her childhood with her irascible, rebellious grandfather, who insisted she learn the good in everything she studied and everyone she met-- and both of those were numerous while growing up. Her favorite pass-times are reading and running, or doing both at the same time, which she somehow has perfected doing at the same time without running into something or -one. Her goals in life are to become as smart and influential as her grandfather-- and avoid being as stupid as her parents-- though she harbors dreams of happiness, acceptance, and love just like every other girl her age. |
History: | Jacquelyne's story starts with her
grandfather, Aamanuel Ohuine, a clever and well-respected AL smith from
an influential family, though for the most part he scorned the social
activities of the nobility and spent most of his time with his creations
and fellows. He considered himself a scientist as much as an engineer,
and an artist as much as a producer. His biggest failing was arrogance,
but even that was tempered with compassion.
His children, however, lacked that compassion, and were fervent supporters of their way of life during the period of despotism on the station that so recently ended. They were among a privileged few to actually be privileged, and didn't want to loose that privilege. Instead, they ended up loosing their lives in the revolution, one of them leaving behind an infant girl who wound up in Aamanuel's care. He raised her alongside his final and favorite android creation, built as a young man named Damien. His respect for Damien, and how well the two got along at any age, led him to name the life-like android as little Jackie's guardian when Jackie was thirteen and Aamanuel finally passed away at a ripe, old age of 86. Since, Jacquelyne has been living off of her grandfather's fortunes, which have slowly but surely been dwindling. She has enough left right now to get her through college, with tuition, bills, and housing for herself and Damien-- but that's about it. What she intends to do after school, she doesn't know-- she doesn't even know what she intends to do during school, for she is only in her first year and so far, everything looks exciting and fun to study, so she can't choose one subject to focus on. The idea of bonding a dragon is, actually, more of a whim than anything else: she was feeling down one day, and Damien wasn't particularly cheery, either, so she signed herself up for a hatching-- without actually thinking that she might bond. "It could be fun!" was all she said. And, as it turns out, it was. The very next hatching was for an Old World dragoness, with something called a queen egg. Jackie was among those sent up to the queen egg, and the only one from among them to bond the largest dragonet from the clutch, the gold Quelymerith. So far, they are getting along famously. They even get along well with Damien's new dragon, stood for and won only over Damien's protests, Incath. Upon "graduating" from new-dragoner training and finding a set of apartments of their own, Damien's worries about money have cropped up again. Though they had enough of his creator's fortune left over to actually purchase the apartment, they still have to eat-- and the dragons eat a lot. Jacquelyne is still at school, too, just finishing her general education and trying to decide what to major in-- though she's leaning towards sociology-- so she can't very well take a job. So, the task falls on Damien and the dragons-- the former reluctant, and the latter excited-- to support the household. Just what they're planning on doing, he still isn't sure, but Jackie has faith in them all. |
