Description: | A member of one of the taller species of elf, Deravia is still fairly sturdily built, odd for elves in general, with a heart-shaped, gently rounded face, a dark shade of peach that is natural rather than sun-made or weathered. Her hair is long, thick, and silky, a dark umber brown with auburn highlights, often worn back with long tendrils, wrapped in an obviously elven style, dangling down in front of her tall, upswept ears. Her large, narrow eyes are a shade of green that would look at home in a far-distant woodland, and when she wears her preferred autumn colors, like rich orange and deep brown, she could easily stand in for a goddess of the harvest-- especially now, given that she is roundly pregnant with her firstborn. |
Personality: | For the past sixty years or so, Deravia has
lived completely independently. On her elven homeworld, she was a young
doctor, and once she left to travel to other worlds in answer to her
medical calling-- and to make a comfortable living, of course, and see
far-off places-- she had no one but herself to rely on. As such, she is
a very capable individual, capable enough to be very intimidating when
she wants to be-- though she never quite looses her motherly bearing and
appearance. Being compared to some goddess of the harvest is actually
fairly apt, in more than just appearance: she is a hard worker, a
productive worker, and an organized worker. All around, she just likes
to work, whether it be organizing paperwork, mixing up potions or poultices,
or just rearranging furniture. At the moment, she's really into
rearranging furniture. That might just be because she's pregnant,
though.
Though she is a very compassionate person-- why else would anyone become a doctor?-- Deravia is also opportunistic, cynical, and sometimes selfish. But then, who isn't? She is looking forward to the birth of her first child, if just so she won't be carrying the weight of her daughter inside her anymore, but she is not looking at motherhood as some kind of adventure; she may have liked to travel before settling at the station, but she is not particularly adventurous. She is actually facing it with the same easy acceptance that she gives most changes in her life, and is preparing for it with a gusto. |
History: | Deravia has lived on the Star City station
for nearly fifteen years, arriving just a few years after the station
was opened to the outside world. She immediately set up shop with her
herbs and more naturalistic remedies, treatments, and supplements than
the highly technical station medics-- no matter how reliable medical
technology is, there are always some people who insist on doing
things "the old fashion way", and it is those people who come
to Deravia. She doles out fairly expensive medicines, as well as some
more traditional forms of doctoring, such as acupuncture and massage.
Deravia married just five years ago, to a very active, curious young man-- younger than herself by a couple decades, in fact-- who is away from the station as often as he is at it. She doesn't mind, for he forages for her herbs and medicinal plants when he's away, and if he stuck around all the time, she thinks she might well get sick enough of him to chase him away of her own volition rather than his, and he might not take that well. Her reaction to his obsessive doting on her in the past couple months, when he returned from a trip to find her well into her second trimester and then refused to leave her until the baby was born, has been enough to prove that to her. The idea of bonding a dragon has been on Deravia's mind almost ever since she settled on the station, but it was only recently that she felt financially secure enough to do so. A dragon, a teleporting dragon no less, would be an amazing help in collecting stock for her store, as well as exciting for travel without the nuisance of having to book passage on a ship or find one's self stranded on a world with only a magical portal that may or may not work again to send you home. She actually set about standing at clutches fairly recently after the station opened itself up for out-world dragons, and despite her increasing roundness with child, she has continued standing, by now as much out of sheer stubbornness and refusal to quit as desire to actually bond. Not even the fact that her unborn daughter bonded before she did is could dissuade her. Once Thenna is born, Deravia set her sights on the next hatching, that of Usaroflyin. She finally managed a bond of her own, this time, almost to her own surprise. Guari is a wonderful child, though, all the elfin woman could wish for in a bond. She just hopes Guari goes swiftly, so she doesn't have three children in the house forever.... |
Abilities: | Though an elf, Deravia doesn't have much in the way of magic. She has some small ability with plants, encouraging growth and productivity, and a smaller ability with healing, but other than that, magic is not her strong suit at all. She is, however, a moderately powerful psionic, mainly in telepathy but with a mild gift in telekinesis and enough metabolic ability to augment her minimal magic and supplement her more extensive knowledge and medicinal skills. |
